Summary:  

Essay describes how Rob Hall is the tragic hero in the story "Into Thin Air."

Rob Hall, from New Zealand was a guide for the Adventure Consultants. He was a very gregarious man who was devoted to climbing and guiding mountaineers up Mount Everest. He was a tragic hero because of his tenacity in getting people up the mountain but died in the end. He was not in the ventures for the surfeit of money; he was guiding to help people achieve their own personal goals in life by climbing Everest. Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer is a tragedy because many people die due to a string of unexpected events.

Rob Hall advertised the Adventure Consultants by saying it was "the world leader in Everest Climbing, with more ascents than any other organization" (37). He also sent a brochure to people that said:
