Summary: Essay provides a discussion on the music world of hip-hop.
Despite the change in hip hop over the last 25 years hip hop artists try to revive the true foundation of the hip hop community. Since the beginning of it's start in the late 70's hip-hop was always the art form that critics thought was not going to last. Since disco was the craze of the 70's and 80's hip hop was thought to never last any longer than a pair of sneakers. It's overall expansion from the beginning has proved these critics wrong. The Hip-Hop industry is grossed at over 5 billion dollars not only just in the music field, but in clothes, movies and televison, advertising, communications, restaurants, etc. Despite all the positive changes to hip-hop, there have been many controversies, many rap wars, many scandals. People have questioned whether hip-hop stands for what it stood for in the beginning- a voice for the African-American community.
