Summary:   Essay examines how Conrad's story "The Secret Sharer" strikes a familiar vein in everyone.


Joseph Conrad addresses a theme, which affects our lives every day, at home, at work and even in the public. This theme is secrecy, which is one of the major aspects of the short story "The Secret Sharer". Throughout every day of our lives we are confronted with some type of secrecy, be it in school ? trying to hide yourself from the teacher, whilst she is collecting the homework, at home ? trying to hide your failed test from your parent or simply keeping a secret. The concept of secrecy plays a big part in the world today (e.g. military and industrial secrets) and will continue doing this probably till the end of mankind.
