Summary:   Essay discusses the science fiction novel "The Chrysalids."


What is a mutant? "It's a blasphemy against the true Image of God, and hateful in the sight of God." (13) This is the basis of the story "The Chrysalids." Three basis of science fiction navel are mutation, fantasy, and technology. "The Chrysalids", is a science fiction novel.

"The Chrysalids" involves mutation, which in turn proves that this novel is science fiction. In mutation, there are three categories, human, animal and plant. Under the human category, lies Sophie. Sophie is placed under the human category, because she has six toes. Sophie's six toes are considered to be a mutation, because all normal humans do not have six toes, but five. Under the animal category lie the giant horses, and the cats with no tails. The giant horses are considered to be a mutation because they are larger.....
