Under the reign of three major emperors, Augustus, Diocletian, and Constantine, many changes in Roman life were made.

Octavian got the title of Augustus in 27 B.C. from the senate and ascended to the throne where he remained for over 40 years until his death in 14 A.D. Augustus tried to bring peace to the west of the Empire, especially Gaul and Spain. While doing that, Augustus tired to expand the Empire to the Elbe river, up North, but was attacked by Arminius who destroyed three of his legions. There was also trouble in the East where Parthians tried to expand west toward Rome, which resulted in many fights. However, Augustus rule came known to be the Augustan Age.
