The Jungle

Summary:   This essay is a detailed description of the plot in the novel "The Jungle."


The Jungle is a book written in the first part of the twentieth century depicting the hard ships and perils of factory life in Chicago. The main character of the story is Jurgis Rudkus a Lithuanian man who had heard the tale of a fellow Lithuanian who had come to America with his wife Ona to build his fortune.

With his mind full of enchanting stories of untold riches he found a wife and left Lithonia in sights of America to build a home for himself and his family. He comes to America only knowing few English words.

The main word he knew at first was Chicago and people would point in a direction until he reached there. When he reached Packing town, Chicago he soon found the man he had heard of in Lithonia, Jokubas.....
