Though totalitarianism and democracy are completely different forms of government, forms of Totalitarianism have been used in some democracies. Both forms of government have different principles. Totalitarianism is much stricter in the way the dictator has absolute rule over the people, while a true democracy is based on the views of the people. However there are some aspects of totalitarianism and democracies that are the same.

Totalitarianism is any political system in which a citizen is entirely subject to state power in every part of day to day life. The dictator has absolute power over everything the public does. When Stalin ruled Russia, the government had power over the society's business life, family life, labor, housing, religion, and education.
