Essay discusses how the character of Kino is twisted by greed and is severely punished for it in "The Pearl."

He had a decision to make. He had found the Pearl of the world, which would save his dying baby boy who, had been stung by a scorpion earlier that day. Although he had a desperate need for this Pearl for his son's life, he had grander plans in mind. Kino is twisted by greed and is severely punished for it.

Kino found the pearl for a reason. Since the greedy doctor would not help the family without pay, Kino was forced to search the depths of the ocean for a solution. When Kino finds the pearl, he dreams of all the things he could do with his fortune. He dreams of having a wedding in a Church with Juana (his wife) and for his son, Coyotito, to read. This is something the people of the brush.....
