Cinderella Vs. the Little Prince

Summary:   It compares the classic "Cyrano de Bergerac" by Rostand and the movie "Roxanne" with Steve Martin. It also compares each to another piece of literature, "Cinderella" and "The Little Prince."


Love triangles, death, and scorn lovers. Sound like a soap opera? No, it is all contained in the plots of Roxanne by Steve Martin and Cyrano de Bergerac by Rostand. Both Roxanne and Cyrano de Bergerac depict the heroic tale of a man, Cyrano/Charlie forced to deal with his massive nose as he attempts to win the lovely Roxanne's heart through his wit and charming personality. Christian, Chris in Roxanne, is the stunningly handsome, but verbally stunted, man who is also in love with Roxanne. Together Cyrano and Christian team up to create the "perfect man" and attain Roxanne's love through their combined talent. Roxanne, a film by Steve Martin, brings Rostand's classic play, Cyrano de Bergerac, into modern times although the different ending changes the feeling of the play. Roxanne has an almost sappy sweet.....
