From the beginning of education reforms in America, there has been a steadfast effort by politicians to reduce the cost of education. This common theme in the 20th century, which has carried through the 21st century, has turned schools into factories that are always looking for ways to increase efficiency and reduce expenses. The tragedy in all of this is the lack of fervor towards the children and their needs. This can be seen through the increasing efforts to continue to prepare students for tests while a decreasing effort in schools to develop character in the students.
