Introduction

I am going to be investigating the amount of energy released by a selection of Alcohols. I hope to be able to find a relationship between the elements in the molecule and the amount of energy released.

Method

I wish to burn a fuel, and see how much energy was let out. Therefore, I must find a way to measure the amount of heat energy that is released by the fuel. I think the best way to do this is to put a copper beaker containing water above the burning fuel, so that the water is warmed with the released heat.

The equipment should be set up like this:

1. The beaker is to be filled with 50cm³ of water and is at room temperature.
