Summary:   Variations within the speech communities of the English language.


Within any speech community, there are degrees of language variation. The geographical location of an individual; their socio-economic background; their education; and even their gender, are all significant factors in language variation.

The geographical location of an individual greatly influences the way they speak. The first 7-UP video displayed a distinct variation between the accent of Nicholas from Yorkshire spoke, and the accents of Neil and Peter from Lancashire spoke - yet they were all born and bred in England. Within Australia, there are not these distinct variations in the different areas. It is a homogenous language, unlike England and America, and therefore there are no geographical language variations.
