Recently, the switch from the "traditional calendar" schooling to year-round schooling has been hotly debated in the York Region area. Already, many schools in the United States have changed their school calendars in order to have school throughout the whole year (without a traditional 2 month break during the summer). There are many reasons why one can be opposed to this. First of all, even though there are some schools who have tried schooling year-round, it is not as popular as proponents claim; since a lot of schools have implemented it, but later went back to using the traditional calendar. Another reason why year-round schooling should not be carried on is because even though some supporters say it may help schools financially, it can prove to be bad for Canada's economy.
