Summary:   This essay is about analyzing the role of Madame Defarge in the novel "Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens.


Tale of two cities has it's setting during the period of French revolution. The word "revolution" itself is symbolic of rebirth and resurrection. Thus the readers note how the characters would play an important role in bringing out this theme of resurrection and add to the development of the plot. One of the prominent characters is Madame Defarge who is seen as the key figure in the whole revolution and it is her character which develops the plot.
