Throughout history the Native Americans have been denied some rights by the United States government. Many government policies and treaties with Native Americans have been made and broken, but in the 1960's the relation between the federal government and American Indian groups changed to reflect the growing appreciation among the citizens of the United States of the values of pluralism.

During the nineteenth century, the Native Americans were dealt with in a oppressive manor by the U.S government. Three important acts that marked that period of time was the Indian Removal Act of 1830, in which gave power to the government to force natives living east of Mississippi to move onto Indian Territory on the west.It was a process called "exchange" of lands, but most described it as a "forced removal." Also the Trail of Tears from 1838-1839, the Indians were driven west to Indian Territory. Many...
