The Golden Compass

Summary:  

A description of characters and other various things in the book "The Golden Compass."

For this course I had to read six novels. The first of which was "The Golden Compass" by Phillip Pullman. Through his detailed settings and engaging characters Mr. Pullman has truly woven a tale of passion and deceit, love and betrayal all seen through a little girl's eyes.

In this three hundred and ninety nine paged novel, Phillip Pullman takes the reader into a world all its own and yet uncannily similar to our own. The time is not clearly known in this story, though there seem to be many highly developed machines in this world, but then again some of the characters still use oil for their lights. The settings are Jordan College in Oxford, London where male scholars have raised the main character, Lyra, when they've had the time for her. London, England where Lyra.....
