Social Intolerance Against Rastafarians

Summary:   It is a critical anaylsis of an essay written by Tico. It speaks about the social intolerance of Rastafarians.


In the article "Defending Rastafarians Against Social Intolerance" (The Tribune, 29 July 2000), the author Tico addresses the issue of social intolerance of Bahamians towards the Rastafarians. He states that Rastafarians have been rejected by society and harassed as if having dreadlocks is a crime. He says that Rastafarianism is a valid religion just like any other religion and in conclusion he states that our relationship with Jah is a personal one and if the youth want to know more about him they must do some soul searching. Tico's purpose for writing this article was to inform his readers of the injustice done to Rastafarians by society because of their lack of knowledge of the Rastafarian religion. While he agrees that the youth indeed need guidance he strongly objects that the youth be guided by persons.....
