Beowulf and Ilia Muromets - Two Heroes, Two Cultures.

Summary: A comparison of two heroes: Germanic Beowulf and one of the most famous Russian heroes Ilia Muromets.
Epics are the earliest tales that were retold from one generation to another. The epic reflects culture and traditions of a particular country where it was written. Every country has their own epic poems, their own epic heroes. The most famous of Germanic heroes is Beowulf. One of the most famous Russian epic heroes is Ilia Muromets.

They both perform courageous deeds having no fear in front of evil creatures. We can see how brave, how smart they are. Beowulf is fighting barehanded with monsters and killing all of them. He is "greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world." Beowulf is ready to fight any time. Ilia is winning in the battles everybody who stands on his way. His deeds are protection of Kiev Russia from its enemies.

Beowulf, a king, a ruler of Geats, is of a noble birth. Ilia is of a poor background...
