Apollo

Summary:   Essay provides a description of the mythical character of Phoibus Apollo.


Phoibus Apollo was the son of the Great God Zeus and the Titan Leto. He had a twin sister named Artemis. Apollo is one of the most important gods of both the Roman and Greek religions (www.thanasis). The name usually appears in the Greek texts as Apollon, or Phoibos Apollon. Phoibos means 'shining' or 'bright' (Cavendish). According to Simon Vouet Apollo was known as, "the most greek of all gods." Also one of the seven wonders of ancient world, "The colossus Rhoades," is a statue of Apollo (www.thanasis).
