Water as a Biological Solvent
Solute - A solute is the part that is dissolved in a solution. Sugar, common salt and caustic soda are examples of a solute.
Solvent - A solvent is the part that does the dissolving in a solution. An example of a common solvent is water.
Solution - Solutions are defined as homogeneous mixtures. As well as water, solutions include a wide range of artificial and naturally occurring systems such as blood, stomach acid, sap in plants, and beverages such as coffee and lemonade.
