Summary: Discusses different views on abortion within the church.
Different Christian denominations have different views on abortion, but people have their own views within their religious beliefs. Nearly all Christians agree that abortion is wrong but some don't think that it is always wrong depending on the circumstances. For example, some people think that it would be okay to have an abortion if the pregnancy was induced through rape or that the foetus was severely handicapped and would only survive for a few days at the most.

Some early church leaders allowed abortion up to the fortieth day of the pregnancy because it is then that the child was believed to gain its soul. This was based on early understandings of science and is not generally acceptable now.
