Window Display

Summary:   Provides an analysis of a Window Display depicting a wedding reception. Describes the display and the feelings it elicits.

In my search for a striking window display, I spent many hours walking the streets of Vancouver. Suddenly my eyes fell upon " W. H. PUDDIFOOT LTD" (Gift and Wedding registry). It was as if I had turned my head and was able to see a real wedding reception. As I crossed the street to walk toward the store, the images of a wedding cake, a wooden door, a picnic basket, and a crockery set attracted my attention. It was then that I realized that this store was to be the protagonist in my assignment.

The wedding cake was placed in the center of the beautiful wedding reception representation. This imitation showed the store's theme and gave a clear idea of what the store was selling. Shining crockery sets and crystal wine glasses were pleasantly displayed on the table.

The wooden door was located between the two large windows and looked much like a front door to a typical home. The door represented a new beginning in a couple's life. It was a follow up in a story after a wedding, in which the couple is ready to raise a house and experience life. Since the door looked like a door to a regularly styled house, I felt welcome to the store. It was as if the door had open arms saying, "Welcome home."

The picnic basket and the crockery set gave meaning to life experiences. It symbolized new family's good times and enjoyment of life's moments. The picnic basket, a container of tastes, was like a shell of emotions. Love, trust, and courage, accompanied with great tasting food to be part of a family's life. The crockery set represented the growth of the family, social gatherings, and celebrations in life.

The store's name was written in a very elegant silver font. The levels and heights created on the display made it easy for customers' eyes to look at the whole picture and enjoy the presentation in a more organized way. I noticed that the depths and lights of the display were arranged to make costumers focus on certain objects. I believe that a successful display is the one that informs the public of the selling products in an accurate way and it is appealing to the eye.

"Life is a handful of short stories, pretending to be a novel" - anonymous.

The short stories represented by the wedding cake, the wooden door, the picnic basket and the crockery set. These three short stories make up a novel, which symbolizes the store. In this case, the store represents life and it makes you feel alive. It was as if I was looking through a window into somebody's house.
