In The Odyssey the theme of epic hero is present throughout the book. An epic hero is a hero of a story who displays great courage, strength, and moral throughout the story. He also has superhuman powers such as his ability to speak with the gods and his intense strength. Odysseus is an excellent example of an epic hero. This essay will demonstrate why Odysseus is an epic hero, and how The Odyssey displays this.

Odysseus’ qualities of an epic hero are first apparent in book seven. Nausicaa, the princess of Phaeacia, falls in love with Odysseus, and attempts to capture his heart, however her efforts prove futile, as Odysseus only longs to return home to his wife after nearly twenty years of being separated by the Trojan War and Odysseus being stranded in Troy after ten years of war.
