In this experiment you will be investigating the effect of carbon dioxide concentration on the rate of photosynthesis.

Prediction:

Carbon dioxide is necessary for photosynthesis. We predict that as the concentration of carbon dioxide increases the rate of photosynthesis will also increase.

Plan:

Carbon dioxide can be added to water in which the plant is growing by adding sodium hydrogen carbonate.

,,h Set up apparatus as shown in the diagram with the pondweed in a 1g/litre solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate

,,h Allow 10 minutes for the plant to adjust to the level of carbon dioxide
