For the United States, the years between 1798 and 1819 are essentially the most significant era concerning its progress in forming a constructive sense of nationalism. The ability to emphasize nationwide rather than independent goals is what defines nationalism. Events such as: the formation of the American System, the acts of Thomas Jefferson, and the War of 1812 set the stage for a prosperous America.
