Iroquois and Huron's and Fur Trade

Summary:   Provides a history of the explorers, Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain. Traces their travels to Canada and details their forming of alliances with the local native groups. Also explains why the fur trade was important in the growth of North America.


The Iroquois with Jacques Cartier and the Hurons, as well as the Algonkins with Samuel de Champlain played an important role in the exploration and development of the fur trade in North America. The obvious reason for explorers to explore the northwest was to find a passage to Asia, ironically this was named the Northwest Passage. Europe wanted to trade with Asia, because of the rumoured riches in eastern Asia. Anyway, many explorers sailed the Atlantic, but instead of finding Asia, they found that they were on the rocky shores of, what is now North America. Another interesting thing about this land was that there were people.

One of the reasons the natives of Stadacona played an important role in the exploration of North America is that the two sons of a local Iroquois chief saved most.....
