Ontario's ecological richness is at risk due to global warming. This richness is shown in the diverse ecosystems that attract tourists and bring money into the province. More than seven billion dollars is attracted in tourism and recreation due to the distinct ecosystems around the Great Lakes. The change in temperature is mainly driven by human activities, first and foremost the burning of fossil fuels to produce electricity and to drive our cars. The fossil fuels emit gases, mainly carbon dioxide, that layer the planet and trap heat. The consequential alteration in the Earth's atmosphere and climate greatly affects the people and environment of the Great Lakes region. These changes impact most prominently in forests and wildlife, water supplies and human health.
