Julius Caesar, A Character Analysis

Summary:   Analyzes the play Julius Caesar, by Shakespeare. Explores the character of Caesar. Examines different ways in which Caesar can be portrayed.


Julius Caesar; A great Roman general and senator, recently returned to Rome in triumph after a successful military campaign. A proud, idle man who believes himself as constant as the North Star.

Caesar is one of Shakespeare's most complicated characters. Shakespeare creates him for mystery, to put a twist on the plot, and to keep people talking and arguing over if Caesar should, or should not have been killed, for a long time after watching the play.

When first taking a look at the play, as it is named Julius Caesar, you would expect it to be centred around Caesar, and for him to be around until the end. Instead he dies halfway through. Again you might think this is the end of the concept of Caesar, and that the title is all wrong, but Shakespeare continues.....
