Describes the Irish fight for independence from the UK. Considers the issue from both Irish and English point of views. Explores the historical relationship between England and Ireland.

The United Kingdom is one of the most powerful nations even today. After 1801 until 1916, Ireland was under the rule of the UK, which had England as its most powerful nations at the time. Because England was predominantly Protestant and Ireland was mostly Roman Catholic, the two nations did not relate well to each other. From 1800 to 1916, both the English and the Irish had problems with their relationship because of their different views on how Ireland should be ruled.

Both the English and the Irish had people that wanted Ireland to be under the rule of the UK. In 1801, William Pitt the Younger said, " Ireland must be ruled with English interest."
