Adaptability

Summary:   A personal essay reflecting on high school and the future. Describes the experience of attending a new school and adapting to a different culture.


When I first arrived at Burnaby North Secondary, I felt lost. I had just recently moved from Coquitlam to Burnaby, making the transition from Middle School to High School even more grueling. In Coquitlam, I attended Hillcrest Middle School which was much smaller both physically and socially. In contrast, Burnaby North felt humongous and unsociable because I did not know anyone at the school. I was isolated. However, as the years progressed I adapted to the environment. I adapted to the teaching staff, to the schoolwork, to the student body, but most importantly, I adapted to high school life. Teachers turned out to be friendly and caring. Before long, schoolwork was easy and painless, as questionable as it may seem. Fellow students became acquaintances then pals, and finally close friends. I realized that through all these.....
