Some Men See Things as They Are

Summary:   Provides biographical detail on the life of Robert F. Kennedy, brother of President John F. Kennedy. Gives an analysis of the quote by Robert F. Kennedy stating Some men see things as they are and say, `Why?' I dream of things that never were and say, `Why not'

Robert F. Kennedy was active in government serving as America's Attorney General and as New York's Senator. In both of his offices Robert Kennedy helped to save America from crime, segregation, and war and to help shape it for the better by helping the underprivileged, the young, the old, and the racial minorities including Native Americans. The reasons why he did this can be summarized in one of his quotes.

"Some men see things as they are and say, 'Why"' I dream of

things that never were and say, 'Why not'." (Robert F. Kennedy)

His outlook on life, which can be summarized in this quote helped him accomplish these tremendously positive goals. This quote explains the difference between optimism and pessimism in a simplistic manner and in it Robert Kennedy stats that he himself is an optimist. Pessimists are represented as the men who see things and complain and ask 'why"'. 'Why"' could be any number of things ranging from 'why do we have to do this"',' 'Why must we waste our time"', or 'Why are you doing that if it is just going to fail"'. They are portrayed as people who see things that are in progress, are, or were and say only the negatives and question it's existence and validity. However on the other hand optimists are shown explained as the people who see things that may be just elusive, impossible dreams to some and say 'Why not, its so crazy it might work.', 'Why not, take a shot at it.', 'Why not try one more time.'. They are shown as the people who start the progress, the ones who see things that are and try to improve them, and see things that were and try to figure out what was wrong with them. Similarly, in this time, my time, there are still optimists and pessimists. There are those who see the situation in Iraq and look it has failed, look it is failing, or look it will fail. Well if the efforts of our troops, of our leaders, and of our nation as a whole are failing, will fail, have failed then Why isn't anyone saying "Look the idea has failed because of this and by trying again and fixing this then we can make our efforts work." Why isn't anyone saying "We can prevent are efforts from going to ruin if we to this instead of that" and if people are putting out these types of idea's then why are our leaders still saying 'why do you think that will work.' and saying 'why not, lets try it.'
