Billy Joel, an all-American idol of his time, wrote and performed the famous song We Didn't Start The Fire in 1989. This famous song pretty much summarized up everything that had happened throughout the world between the end of World War II and the end of the 1980s. This time period was known as the Cold War.

We Didn't Start The Fire has a chorus of six lines that explains that the United States was not the only reason for the Cold War period. The first and fourth lines, "We didn't start the fire", state in a different way that we (the United States) should not be the only nation/event that is blamed for the tensions of the Cold War, but other events/people that are mentioned in his five stanzas.
