Summary:   Discusses the life and culture of Mexico City from Ancient times to the present. Reviews past leaders, including Montezuma II. Describes the city's hosting of the 1968 Olympic games.


Mexico City, lying at 19 20' North 99 7' West, is a beautiful city rich in culture and history. There is also breathtaking scenery including 2 enormous volcanoes and several pyramids built about 1325 years ago by the Nahuatl when Mexico City was called Teotihuacan, 600 years before the Aztecs settled their land.

Montezuma II was the ruler of Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capitol that is now Mexico City during the time of the Spanish Conquest. When Hernando Cortes came to the Aztec empire Montezuma II thought that he was a god sent down to help them, so he let Cortes into the city and gave him food, jewels and gold and allowed Cortes to stay in the palace. Cortes took advantage of Montezuma II, imprisoning him while Cortes led his army to destroy the great empire......
