Emily Elizabeth Dickinson is one of the most enthralling poets in American literature. Her poems have demonstrated a unique way of dealing with pain and frustration. Dickinson has imprisoned herself in the walls of her tiny room and wrote poems that, even at the present time, fascinate the minds of a great number of readers. Without ever seeing the "real world", she is able to relate to almost all aspects of a regular, everyday life. Even though Emily Dickinson is not considered a transcendentalist, she was influenced by such principals of the American Renaissance, as Emerson and Thoreau. She strongly supports the concept of individuality, which is a frequent theme of her poems. Dickinson was a non-conformist herself, which implies that she is a transcendentalist in her own, "individual" way.
