The Need for Core Goals in Education
Summary: Advocates the need for core goals in education. Describes the importance of a liberal arts education.
If the goal of a liberal arts education is to prepare an individual for life then to achieve this goal one must learn how to apply what is taught to various situations. There are two core subjects that I believe will help a student to be challenged to draw from one discipline and apply it to another. Though the specific coursework may vary the fundamental theory should remain unchanged: an education must be interdisciplinary and consistently ask the student to make connections between the disciplines.
At the core of an interdisciplinary education lies the study of history. I believe to attempt to understand today's world we must have an appreciation of how things have evolved to where they are now.
