Historical Accuracy of The Patriot

Summary: Reviews the Hollywood film, The Patriot, starring Mel Gibson. Examines the four American Revolution battles depicted in the film for their historical accuracy.
The Patriot is a movie that has been made to be as historically correct as possible while adding not only a story but emotion behind it. The four battles depicted in this movie were taken from five original battles that really happened. I believe everything depicted in the battles were mostly precise except for a few details. There were also other details in the film that were not accurately shown.

In the battle of Camden the movie depicts the continental army losing the battle against the British for fighting in traditional military style. In reality this army of blue coats was really made up of more than two thirds militia. So in fact the continental army did not flee in this battle it was mostly militia that fled.

Weaponry in this movie proved to be mostly accurate except for a few theatrical add ins to extend the sense...
