Homer's Use of Mythology

Summary:   Discusses Homer's use of mythology in his ancient classics. Describes how Homer used mythology in such a way as it it sounds realistic, hence his classics became "Bibles" to the Greeks of ancient times, and standard in every Greek's education. Details some of the Greek myths that Homer included in his writings.


What has made Homer's classics, often said to be the best war stories ever written, so popular and well-known? In my opinion, these classics are famous because Homer has used mythology in such a way it sounds realistic, hence his classics have become "Bibles" to the Greeks of ancient times, and standard in every Greek's education. In this paper, I will show you three examples of mythology, in the forms of gods and goddesses, used by Homer. Apollo, Thetis, and Aphrodite, which are unique and play a reasonable role in the legend.
