Summary:   Provides a biography of writer Ken Kesey. Explores his experiences with drugs and arrest for marijuana possession. Describes how events in his life relate to his novel "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."


Born in La Junta, Colorado on September 13, 1935 (Literary Kicks), Ken Kesey grew up to be an incredible writer, and an even better party host. Mr. Kesey attended the University of Oregon, where he obtained a major in speech and communications (Ken Kesey). He was later accepted to a prestigious creative writing program at Stanford University in California (Literary Kicks). While attending Stanford, the prize-winning author worked on the mental ward at the VA Hospital. Here, Kesey tested drugs like LSD, mescaline, and psilocylin. Soon after he started testing the drugs, Kesey started to hallucinate. He once envisioned a very large Indian sweeping floors (The Beat Page).

Kesey and the "Merry Pranksters" often times threw big, lavish parties generally involving the use of LSD. Eventually these parties grew to be too intense for him, so.....
