Summary:   Compares art from the Middle Ages and the Renaisance. Analyzes how artwork reflects changes in society and culture.


Artwork from different times can illustrate many different ideas about a society's social life. There were many societal changes, social, political, and economical, between the Middle Ages (450AD - 13250AD) and the Renaissance (1350AD - 1500AD). Using two pieces of artwork, one from the Middle Ages and the other from the Renaissance, one can compare these changes in society and culture. For example, using Christ Between Angels and Saints, a piece from the Middle Ages and The Marriage of a Virgin by Raphael Sanzio, from the Renaissance, many different changes can be seen. The culture of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance is highly represented by the artwork and architecture from there respected period.
