Definition of History

Summary:   Attempts to define history. Examines subjective perceptions of history. Describes the methods historians use to learn about the past.


Well, that depends on who's telling the story, where they live, and what time period they lived in. Depending on who you are talking to, and what side of the planet they live on - you're going to get a different story of events. Think about what's happening in Iraq right now. Here in Montana, we're going to have a different view than say someone living in Baghdad. In my opinion, the definition of History varies from person to person all across the world based on their opinion and position in the world.

Before taking world history, I would have defined history as plainly the study of the past, but it's more complicated than that. Here's the dictionary definition of history: "a story of recorded events, (in chronological order), including the development and behavior of.....
