Affirmative action, also known as positive discrimination or employment equity is described as, "specific consideration given to groups considered by some to be victims of social discrimination." This may mean social groups that were mistreated, given less attention to or misrepresented in the past, getting a small advantage over the majority of people who are not of minority groups. According to Stats Canada, this specifically means White Males. White Females are the next largest minority, and after that, Asian Males and Indian Males are close. The largest minority groups are Asian and Indian females, Natives and those of African background, females being a slightly bigger minority than the males.
