It is clearly evident that animal experimentation is an ongoing debate as to whether or not it is necessary for the well-being of humanity. In any case, the main -- if not only -- reason animals are used in laboratory experiments is to advance the welfare of humankind, most often lacking even the least bit of concern for the animals who sacrifice their lives in exchange for medical, cosmetic and household product innovations. According to Peggy Carson, research scientist for the Humane Society of the United States, most of the medical experiments that take place involving animal only take up time and money to no avail. While supporters of animal experimentation claim that "the average human life span has been lengthened by animal experimentation," opposition states that the increase in human life span is credited to the decline in recent epidemics (Animals 1).
