Summary:   This essay is about how Gandalf, whom is not seen much throughout the book, plays a pivotal role in the novel.


"I am looking for someone to share and adventure with..." begins the story of Bilbo Baggins. However, the key part is who says it. It is Gandalf the wizard whom plays a small yet very important role in the book The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. The book is based on an adventure, which takes place in middle earth before the time of man. Bilbo Baggins is the man whom is the one taking the adventure. He is a hobbit. Hobbits are little people, smaller than dwarves. They love all of the simpler things in life. They have hairy feet and never wear shoes.

Now for the great wizard Gandalf. Gandalf is an intelligent wizard whom enjoys adventure and the company of his elf friends. Gandalf plays the role as the mysterious leader whom always seems to come.....
