Biography of Oprah Winfrey

Summary:   My essay is about Oprah Winfrey's life, which includes her childhood, education, young career and problems faced, later career and achievements, marriage, and how she affected the history of America.


Oprah Winfrey was an important figure in the African-American History. I wanted to read about this important person because I heard she is dynamic, loyal, and creative. Also I want to find out the steps she took to become the first African-American talk show host.

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29,1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. Oprah's parents were not married; Vernon Winfrey was her father who lived in another part of the state. Vernita Lee was her mother who planned to name her baby Orpah, after a woman in the Bible. But the midwife who helped with the birth spelled it wrong on the birth certificate so the baby's name appeared as Oprah. He mother Vernita was unemployed and she could not find a job in Kosciusko so she went north to.....
