Summary: An essay summarizing and explaining the Seven Deadly Sins.
Although the number seven is a significant number in the Bible, you cannot find the Seven Deadly Sins in it. Rules to live by are mentioned in the Old and New Testaments, yet the well-known list of these sins isn't specifically among them. The famous list of these sins is actually prepared by Pope Gregory the Great, back in the sixth century AD. He came up with a list of seven spiritual sins: pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sadness (which was later changed to sloth). Catholic Church began teaching these sins to people in the 13th century, so that they would be aware of what they shouldn't do in order to keep their spirits healthy. However, the Church preferred to call them "capital vices" instead of sins, because it was believed that these weren't actually sins but flaws that led to committing sins.
