Essay discusses the controversial issue of racism within the novel "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" by Mark Twain.

In Mark Twain's novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, there is one big issue that people have with the book which has given it a horrible reputation not only to the novel itself, but to the writer Mark Twain. The main issue that people have with the book is that it uses the word "nigger" frequently and therefore they believe that Huckleberry Finn is racist. The definition of racism, according to The American Heritage of College Dictionary, is "1.The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. 2. Discrimination or prejudice based on race." (1125). A great example of a text that is the opposite of racist is Twain's Huckleberry Finn.
