Proctor engaged with Abigail who has romantic feelings for Proctor, trying to avoid being a sinner John dismays Abigail's feeling. Furthermore is an epidemic of witchcraft into play, Betty the Reverend's daughter has fallen ill after she was found to be involved with witchcraft.

Dear Diary, What I had feared about the towns people wondering about the superstition as started.. I heard that Reverend John Hale of Beverly was coming to Reverend Parris's home, I hope he can help Betty and Ruth. At the Parris's home ,Tomas Putnam had suggested that Reverend hale look for signs of witchcraft is appalling .
