This story opens with in narrative outlook, it isn't long until it shifts to Ethan's point of view. Due to the fact that the other characters are only portrayed through the Ethan's eyes, Ethan can easily be considered the protagonist. Although Ethan is viewed as the protagonist, yet he becomes a very frustrating main character. Ethan is a pathetically depressed, indecisive, pacifist, although he cannot be blamed, and often feel sympathetic toward him, for he is undoubtedly a victim of circumstance.
The death of Ethan's parents consequently created more circumstances for Ethan to fall a victim of, as if his mother and father dying weren't enough.
