Censorship in Society

Summary:   Censorship within novels, movies, and music. These include Edith Hamilton's Mythology, Harry Potter, the Bible, and the Odyssey.


Censorship. The word is used time and time again throughout society. Today, censorship is not as it was in the past. Society today tolerates what used to be censored before. Most of it is acceptable nowadays. In Edith Hamilton's Mythology we find myths that show the gods to be unjust or ill-natured. These myths also show the people to be very obscene. Although these myths are not completely useless, many of them are parables. The myths, such as Tantalus and Niobe, the Trojan War, and Hercules, show just how things really are. With that said, we do not only find this behavior in mythology. We find this in art, music, other literature, etc. Works such as John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men are considered to be obscene because of it's profanity and.....
