When most people reach the end of "The Lottery" they are abhorred and greatly disturbed. However, sacrifice has always been a part of the human race. All throughout history and society, there are examples of individual sacrifice for the many.

If we look back through history, we see that time and time again, people have made sacrifices for their country or state. During war, individuals are asked to fight and die for their country. On the home front, they are asked to give up food, money, time, and members of their family for the war effort.

Another example of individual sacrifices for the many is ritual sacrifices. The Aztec people believed that if they did not present a human sacrifice, the sun would not rise, darkness would cover the earth, and they would all be destroyed. There are.....
